On the second day of your incredible journey along the Turkish Riviera, you will cross the thresholds of ancient Lycia, discovering the fascinating history and beauty of this region.
After an early and indulgent breakfast, you will head towards Myra, modern-day Demre. This city has existed since the 5th century BC and was one of the most important centers of Lycia. During Roman times, Myra rose to the rank of a metropolis and became the capital of the province. The legacy of those times still comes to life in the ruins of ancient Myra, located about 1.5 km from today's city of Demre. At the acropolis, some defensive walls and an impressive rock throne from the Lycian period still stand. At the foot of the acropolis lies the Roman amphitheater, considered the largest in Lycia. The entire city and its surroundings are adorned with rock-cut tombs, their facades reminiscent of temple architecture.
In Demre, you will also visit the 19th-century Church of St. Nicholas. It was here, in the 4th century, that the local bishop anonymously distributed gifts to the poor, contributing to the legend of St. Nicholas. Inside the church, walls from the 4th century with a burial crypt containing the remains of the saint were discovered.
Next, you will move to the Museum of Lycian Civilization, which is located in restored warehouses built during the reign of Hadrian. There, you will see the remains of the ancient city of Andriake, an important port in the Demre region. You will also find a reconstructed ship with amphorae, cisterns, and many other artifacts that testify to the splendor of this region.
In the afternoon, you will spend time in the picturesque Saklikent Gorge, the second largest in Europe. The gorge is approximately 18 km long and reaches heights of up to 300 meters. Its floor is crossed by a swift stream, creating an extraordinary landscape.
In the evening, for relaxation after an intense day, we suggest a visit to a genuine Turkish bath. There, after foam treatments and a relaxing massage, you will unwind after a long day. You will then move on to Oludeniz, a charming village that will captivate you with its beauty. For those interested, there will be an unforgettable paragliding experience. It's an opportunity to admire the blue lagoon from a bird's-eye view, which will undoubtedly leave an impression on your soul and heart.
